AI Governance Curriculum

This course is designed to be completed over several days of dedicated effort, after which learners will emerge with a strong understanding of AI Governance, and well-equipped to actively participate in and contribute meaningfully to discussions on the topic.

The curriculum is structured as follows:

3. Identifying Unsolved Challenges in AI Governance

Discuss the complex issues and unresolved challenges that currently exist in the realm of AI governance, and explore the critical questions that need to be addressed.

• 📚 Reading Material: The Malicious Use of Artificial Intelligence (Long form review paper; 101 pages); This paper is a key survey of potential malicious uses artificial intelligence and the recommended mitigation.

4. Envisioning the Future: Charting Next Steps in AI Governance

Engage in forward-thinking discussions to anticipate emerging trends and strategize on how best to navigate the evolving landscape of AI governance for a more sustainable and equitable future.

• 📚 Reading Material: AI Policy Levers: A Review of the U.S. Government’s Tools to Shape AI Research, Development, and Deployment (Long form Paper; 82 pages); This paper is a comphrensive look at the ways the US Government can influence the direction of AI. It’s organized in a manner where the first few pages gives the reader a high level overview.

5. Advanced Topics: AI Alignment

AI Alignment delves into the study and development of methods that ensure artificial intelligence systems act in the best interests of society, while avoiding potential harm. Although the primary focus revolves around AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), many of the concepts and theories presented are applicable to the AI technologies currently in use.

• 📚 Paper: Aligning AI With Shared Human Values; The authors describe an approach to optimize a machine learning model on standards of ethics.

• 📚 Paper: Strategic Implications Of Openness In AI Development; A thoughtful look on what parts of AI research should be open and what should be more carefully monitored.

• 📣 Resource: AI Alignment Forum; The AI Alignment Forum, launched in 2018, is a discussion forum containing over 9000 posts from AI alignment researchers.
